On the other hand if the pitch is too sharp it will add an unpleasant look to your. If gutters slope too severely they don t hold water and water could splash over the sides in heavy rain. Plus it looks nicer on the facia. But the correct answer is it depends.

However for gutters to function correctly they require a slight slope called a pitch which causes rainwater to flow to the downspouts. For example for every 10 feet of gutter they need to drop 1 2 inch from the high end to the downspout. Myself though i always pitch my gutters at least some minimal amount. The amount of collected water increases until it spills over the sides of the gutter.

Gutters need to slope towards the downspouts in order to function properly. This measuring must be as accurate as possible otherwise you will have one of these issues. If the pitch is too moderate the water won t be able to reach the downspout thus. The gutter slope also called the pitch is the amount the gutter tilts down to let rainwater flow out of it.

In theory if your gutters are dead level the ice and mud wont be very deep. Gutters need to be pitched at a 5 degree angle. If gutters don t slope water gathers in them. For a 30 foot gutter thats 1 7 8 inches of crown and ive never done that much.
